Week 5: SPRINT 1.2
Welcome back to the Devlogs! We recently had easter break but we continued working on our project and are excited to share what is new.
First of all our Character Concept has been realized in 3D! He is lacking colour right now but the model is finished and he is already in the game gliding across the floor. Our next steps for the character is creating textures and a rig. Afterwards we can start animating our friend, which will complete our work for the character. Hopefully some of this will be achieved during the next week.
Next to the character Model we also implemented blockout meshes for some items, shelves and the checkout couters. We realized that our scene right now is very large and can definetly be reduced. It is very difficult to see the character and items right now. On top of that our layout still needs some work.
We also added a handy feature that moves the player out of frame once they check out and then respawns them on the left side of the screen. This is meant to create a more immersive situation. Going to checkout and then turning around and going back into the store is very counter intuitive. Noone actually does this in real life. Furthermore, this new system prevents players from checking out items and then simply guarding the checkout area to prevent other players from scoring points
Next to these things we have continued to work on implementing all of the gameplay elements of our game. There are still some things missing but we are confident they can be completed by the end of next week. We also experienced quite a few bugs and issues that needed fixing. For example we noticed that the player is able to grab items from the opposite side of the shelf which is undesireable for our gameplay. However, during the week we were able to fix most of the issues we encountered. We have also started working on the final meshes of the shelves and some of the items. We plan on adding more colour to the level soon.
What is Next?
We need to work on implementing all gameplay elements to our game by the end of next week so there is still lots to be done. We also need to work on creating all of the elements for our game. Right now we only have a few blockout meshes so actual, optimized models and textures are our next focus.
